Should You Be A Content Creator in 2024?

Since its inception the “Content Creator” job title would typically send folks rolling their eyes. People would say things like:

“There’s no stability with that” or “That’s just your side hustle right?”

Fast forward to today, approaching 2024 there’s over 200 million (professional and amateur) content creators making more than the average salary, while the Creator Economy is worth over $104 Billion!

With that said, is this a good career to take on in 2024? With the growth of AI (artificial intelligence), it seems clear that the need for content is not going anywhere and content creators now have even more tools at their disposal to generate high quality content, at a faster pace.

In fact, according to a recent survey, 52% of video creators were already using AI in their creative process by fall 2023. Surrealist visuals are replacing minimalist design, thanks to generative AI tools, challenging creators to push creative boundaries and generate even better content, furthermore this is leaving brands in a great situation to be able to outsource their creative process to experts in the field without forking over a large salary and hiring someone internally.

In 2024, the career of a content creator is expected to thrive, driven by the increasing demand for high-quality content that connects with audiences in novel ways. Key trends shaping the landscape include:

1. Growing Demand for Video Content: Video remains the most popular online content, with a continued surge in demand. Content creators adept at producing high-quality videos are anticipated to be highly sought after.

2. Short-Form Video Platforms: Platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok are gaining popularity. Content creators capable of crafting engaging short-form videos stand to reach broader audiences.

3. Rise of Artificial Intelligence: As mentioned, AI is increasingly used for content creation and distribution, expected to accelerate in 2024. Content creators leveraging AI for efficient workflows will have a competitive edge.

4. Emphasis on Personalization: Audiences are increasingly seeking personalized content tailored to their interests. Content creators who can deliver personalized experiences are more likely to engage and retain their audience.

Tips for success as a content creator in 2024:

Develop Skills: Invest in honing content creation skills, covering writing, editing, and production.

Choose a Niche: Select a niche aligned with your passion and expertise to create relevant and interesting content.

Build a Portfolio: Showcase your skills and experience through a portfolio featuring your best work.

Self-Promotion: Actively promote your work on social media, submit to relevant platforms, and network with other creators.

Consistency is Key: Regularly upload new content to keep your audience engaged.

Interact with Audience: Respond to comments, questions, and participate in social media conversations.

Collaborate: Collaborate with other creators to reach new audiences and create fresh content.

Experiment with Content Formats: Try various formats like blog posts, videos, podcasts, and social media posts to identify what resonates best.

Monetization Strategies: Explore monetization avenues such as advertising, affiliate marketing, and product/service sales.

While a content creator's career offers creative opportunities and a chance to share passions, it requires self-motivation, discipline, and patience. Building a successful career takes time, but with dedication and quality content, it can be a rewarding experience - but you WILL NOT an overnight success, so stay patient ✌🏼
