My real name is Mark Anthony Berardo but all my friends and family call me Tony, so to not make things too complicated years ago when Instagram and Facebook came out, I went with the username “theberardo.” It caught on and that’s why you’ll see that handle every place I’m on social, even on my Podcast.
Just to tell you a little bit about me, I was born and raised in beautiful, busy and hot Orlando, Florida. I’m told that’s rare, but I just think that’s because people don’t want to admit that they’ve been here their entire lives but I’ve always loved it. In fact I just recently purchased my first home here so I guess I’m in it for the long haul.
Even though I was raised here, I’ve had the privilege of living in a few big cities all of the country. I lived in Tampa for a couple of years then decided to move up to Charlotte, which was an absolutely beautiful experience. After those quick trips I flew out to Houston to help a friend with his company, then I headed back down south to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. So as you can see I had a little “City ADD” for about a decade of my life in my 20’s but somehow I ended up back here in Orlando when it’s all said and done. The big reason I love this city is my Father and most of my family are here, my parents have been separated for over 15 years now but my mother isn’t too far away in St Petersburg, which works out good since I’ve always loved that city!
My career path has been similar to my living situation – sporadic but dedicated in the same sense. I’ve been involved in numerous professions but always spend many years learning everything I can with each job and happy to say I’ve never been let go from a company (cue the ‘wood knock’). One of my first job opportunities and probably one of my favorites was working in the Fitness Industry. Here I met some great people which our still best friends today and it’s also where I had my first real experience in sales, I was only 18. As much as I loved the sales side – I wanted to do something more long term for members. So after about 2 years in sales I decided to get certified as a Personal Trainer and do that full time. This path was way more satisfying and I was doing something that could help our members for years to come. I enjoyed every minute of it, sure there was long hours and sometimes a client wouldn’t show up or would reschedule so I’d be stuck waiting for my next client, aside from that it wasn’t too bad. I mean, during my break I was able to workout. Not a bad gig, huh?
Unfortunately after about 4 years into the fitness industry, I realized that it wasn’t the most profitable business long-term. Since I wanted to raise a family one day, I needed something with benefits and growth opportunity. Although I left the industry years ago, I’ve haven’t stopped working out or even training friends and family to live healthier lifestyles. I’m fortunate now to have the time to focus on my career but still have to time to spend a lot of energy writing and hosting my podcast.
